No Dutch entry for the 2016 European Men's and Women's Team Championships in Kazan

No Dutch entry for the 2016 European Men's and Women's Team Championships in Kazan

We reached out to both head coach Rune Massing of the Dutch high performance program as well as to Claus Poulsen, the newly-appointed technical director of the Dutch Badminton Federation.

The latter informed us as follows.

  • 1. It is a matter of keeping focus on the main event next year. We need to make sure that we do everything that is possible to create the best possible situation for our XD and WD to qualify [for the Olympic Games] in Rio.
  • 2. It's also a matter of money. It would be a very expensive event for us to send a Thomas and Uber cup team to Russia. We need to spend every cent wisely to make sure that we can maintain and improve our program in around Papendal and also develop our junior program for the future.
  • 3. We have started the new process with our talentontwikkelings [talent development] project. That is also a huge focus for us in 2016 and onward.
  • 4. The last reason is that we want to maintain our commitment regarding supporting players individually to make sure they get the best possible chances to become as good as possible.

These are 4 of the reasons why we have made this decision this time around.

It is unclear what other reasons were part of the decision making process and we wonder about the best possible interpretation of #4 in this list.
