Soraya de Visch Eijbergen: Malaysia, here I come!

I'm at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol on the runway and in a few moments my flight will take off to Kuala Lumpur on my way to Penang to play in the 2016 Malaysia Masters Grand Prix Gold!

To be able to make this trip to Malaysia - and India - is what I crowdfunded for last year. I am so lucky and thankful that I get to start 2016's tournament schedule with Asia!

Right now, mixed feelings of both great excitement and slight anxiety have a hold on my mind and body. It's the first time that I will be travelling to Asia for an individual purpose. That doesn't offer the 'under the radar'-notion that playing in a team event for my country would give. However, it does up the ante as to what I expect from myself and perhaps others expect from me as well.

I will play my first match of 2016 on Wednesday, January 20th against Busanan Ongbumrungpan from Thailand - winner of this tournament back in 2012! - and I invite you to read the tournament preview on badmintonline.nl. More background about the tournament: click here.
