Another upset was in the other half of the women's singles draw, with fifth-seeded Bae Youn Joo outclassed by the more experienced Yao Jie 21-19, 22-20. The Dutch seemed in good form and was helped in her victory with former compatriot and good friend Xu Huaiwen, who is back in the international circuit as the new Dutch coach, since April 1st. No joke for Bae, who had probably hoped to be the one facing Wang Yihan in the quarters.
